Healing Trauma

These days, trauma has become a much used word that recognises how our pasts can affect our futures and that there are now constructive ways of helping this. This doesn’t make it any easier in dealing with the after-math which trauma leaves behind, but therapy can help us to understand this and potentially change the way we are responding to it.

This can take time, and I offer a compassionate approach to help you to feel supported and heard while we delve into understanding the reasons why life can feel so harsh.

Realising the difference between ‘processed’ and ‘unprocessed’ memory can be a turning point, as well as learning how our brains and bodies help us to survive these situations, but leaving us ill equiped for our life ahead.

It is also important to understand how our feelings and our pasts, effect the developement of our true potential. We often hear People talk about changing our 'limiting beliefs', but what they are really talking about is conditioning and past patterning. This we acquire after birth, from our parents, teachers, society... and this molds us into whom we are to become. Unfortunately not all of this is helpful to us and as we grow older, can actually be what holds us back from life.  These  'limiting beliefs' can influence our ability to truly manifest the things we would  like into our lives, and thus create patterning loops that can go on ad infinitum, unless we do something to change them.

My hope, is that bringing all of this knowledge and understanding into the questions asked, can help us untangle the miriad of ‘learned’ maladapted responses in a way that makes sense as we move towards taking back our future.

Background

I qualified as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in 1981 and have worked for the NHS in Community Mental health for well over 30 years. Here I have held my own one-to-one caseload and practiced interactive and supportive therapy.

For well over 20 of these years, I have focused on working with complex trauma and have trained in EMDR 1&2, Brain Spotting, CRM (Comprehensive Resource Model – Lisa Schwartz), DBR (Deep Brain Reorienting – Dr Frank Corrigan) and TDS (Towards a Dialectical Self – Dr Gordon Barclay)

I have gained much experience with many problems and diagnoses using an eclectic mix of models adapted individually to meet the needs of my clients.

When working with complex trauma and PTSD I work with processing the non-processed trauma experience as well as looking at our learned and maladapted responses in a way to make sense of and understand why we feel the way we do. I have used these techniques extensively in my work and am now offering these skills privately so they can reach more people.
